Peter Foster is a Member for the Mining and Pastoral Region based in Karratha.
Peter was born and raised in Kurri Kurri NSW. Peter comes from a family of six children. His father worked full time as a tyre fitter and his mother stayed home to organise the household. His parents taught him the values of equality and fairness, and that we should never leave anyone behind.
In 2008, he and his partner Samuel moved to Tom Price, Western Australia.
Peter has been a public servant for almost twenty years working for Centrelink and Medicare in NSW and in Western Australia for the Department of Transport and Department of Communities.
Peter is a former local government Councillor with the Shire of Ashburton where he served for nine and a half years and was actively involved in his local community serving as President of the Tom Price Primary School P&C, Chair of Tom Price Senior High School Board and Chairperson of Tom Price Youth Support Association. He also spent several years involved with the Nameless Jarndunmunha Festival Committee.
Peter is driven by public and community service, with a strong desire to give back to his community.
Peter is a strong local advocate for regional communities, jobs, health, and education. He is a proud union member, as well as a member of the LGBTIQA+ community.
Peter is the Chair of the Standing Committee on Environment and Public Affairs, Government Whip in the Legislative Council, and Co-Convenor of the Parliamentary Friends of LGBTIQA+ Communities.
